Anna Keuning

At Hooghiemstra & Partners, Anna advises on the complex field of data retention periods. For example on questions such as: how long should personal data or other critical information be retained, and is this permissible under the GDPR? Anna also advises municipalities on an often-overlooked responsibility within the social domain: the proper archiving of information. Leveraging her expertise in technology and its applications, Anna offers guidance to clients on the evolving skill set required of today’s legal professionals. She has developed a practical guide for legislative drafters and policy advisors responsible for creating regulations on the retention of personal data.

Prior to joining Hooghiemstra & Partners, Anna worked at the Ministry of Justice and Security, where she focused on improving the quality of policy and legislation. Her contributions included participation in the revision of the Integrated Assessment Framework (in Dutch: Integraal afwegingskader, IAK), now known as the Policy Compass (in Dutch: Beleidscompas).

Anna studied in Aruba and in Rotterdam (Arubian Law and International and European Law). She did a research master at University Groningen. In 2021 she was awarded the Hans Franken award for the most innovative master thesis in IT Law. She is a member of the focus group for the new master Law and Technology at Erasmus University.
