Geranne Lautenbach
Geranne knows how to bridge the gap between legislation and practice. She can explain legal rules and concepts clearly, even to non‑legal professionals. In digitalisation projects she prefers to be involved from the very beginning. She enjoys discussing the desired solution direction based on an architecture diagram or a transaction diagram, always thinking in terms of possibilities.
She previously worked as a legal adviser for MedicalPHIT. From her position at Hooghiemstra & Partners she continued those activities. She still collaborates on various projects with MedicalPHIT’s advisers, together striving to make an impact on healthcare.
Geranne is an expert in data‑protection and health law. Her focus is the statutes, regulations, norms, and standards that apply to data availability and the exchange of health information. She advises on drafting DPIAs and also provides training and workshops on these topics. She is well‑acquainted with the different care‑sector agreements, including the Twiin Agreement Framework and the MedMij Agreement Framework.
She also enjoys advising on IT contracts. She has repeatedly guided parties in drafting clear, concise contractual provisions that fit everyday practice.
Expertise: EHDS | health law | data protection | agreement frameworks | IT contracts
Each year Geranne delivers the data‑protection session for the CMIO/CNIO programme at TU/e. She also speaks at conferences on digitalisation in healthcare. Geranne regularly publishes on developments in healthcare digitalisation, including the EHDS. Since 2024 she has been affiliated with the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for supervising theses in the health‑law section. She is also a board member of the Centre for Ethics and Health.
Earlier, Geranne gained experience with digitalisation issues as a corporate lawyer for OLVG and for UMC Utrecht. She also acquired knowledge and experience in clinical practice and with IT contracts while working as a lawyer at NautaDutilh. She taught at the UvA and coordinated the course on international public law. In 2012 she earned her doctorate with a dissertation on the concept of the rule of law in the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
